Havyn: Next Stop on the Cognitive Security Journey

Since cybersecurity professionals are in such short supply, IBM Security is enlisting the help of Watson and cognitive computing to empower our clients and security analysts. Our first movement along this journey, unveiled in early 2016, was Watson for Cyber Security. In February 2017, we introduced the world to the Cognitive Security Operations Center (SOC), which runs on the world’s most advanced security operations and response platform.

Now, we’d like you to meet Havyn. Havyn’s initial design will change the way an IBM Managed Security Services (MSS) client engages with IBM X-Force Command Center personnel. Havyn provides information about the threat landscape and potential security incidents to our clients on demand — all they have to do is ask. It will monitor the status of alerts and offenses and follow them through the analysis process so clients are always abreast of changes and can more easily see the activity occurring on their behalf within the IBM X-Force Command Center.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Workers

Havyn is also an aide to IBM’s threat monitoring analysts who serve thousands of clients around the world. It understands each client, delivers the most relevant information about the client’s network and preferences to our analysts, and makes recommendations based on these and other observations. One of the biggest benefits of cognitive technology is its ability to consume massive amounts of structured and unstructured data presented in natural language and to rapidly retrieve the relevant pieces when needed.

As you might be able to tell, Havyn is being designed with the next generation of technologists in mind — a group IBM has dubbed as the “new collar.” With Havyn as a cognitive-powered digital assistant, this new workforce will be assisted by technology that helps them learn, scale and execute in the increasingly complex world of cybersecurity.
