One small step for enterprise mobility management (EMM), one giant digital leap for an international airline.

Technology has always been used to advance business. Today, however, more companies are implementing enterprise mobility strategies. They aren’t just integrating mobile into their current systems — they’re using mobility to overhaul how they do business, streamline workflows, increase employee productivity and reduce cost.

Enterprise Mobility Management Boosts Productivity

According to appsFreedom, “84 percent of all companies who view themselves as cutting-edge in mobility report an increase in overall productivity as a direct result from incorporating mobile apps into their business.” EMM offers agility and flexibility for businesses to create new and innovative ways to improve overall efficiency and performance.

Garuda Indonesia serves as a great example of the power of EMM. The Indonesian airline used a comprehensive EMM solution to mobilize its workforce securely.

Aircraft manuals are traditionally printed and distributed in paper form. Pilots would carry with these piles of manuals, often weighing more than 30 kilograms (66 pounds), from one flight to another. They would have to search through reams documentation for the information needed to perform required checks and calculate key performance metrics.

Digital Transformation Takes Flight

Using IBM MaaS360, Garuda Indonesia was able to manage all its aircraft iPad apps and content securely and centrally in an “electronic flight bag,” thereby safeguarding the content in the event of loss or theft and freeing pilots from manual documentation. The EMM solution enabled the airline to update and monitor mobile devices and ensure compliance with all regulations.

As a result of the reduction in manual work, the Garuda Indonesia increased productivity by 50 percent for pilots and 30 percent for operations staff. Combined with reduced implementation time and cost, the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model enabled the airline to optimize and mobilize its workforce securely.
