IBM Security is among those that lead the pack in Managed Security Services in a recent assessment of eleven providers in “The Forrester Wave™: Managed Security Services, North America, Q3 2016.” This year, Forrester recognized only three vendors in the Leader category, IBM being one of them. We thank our clients for their trust in IBM Security.

This year’s Forrester Wave for Managed Security Services focused on two major areas: the growing security skills shortage, which creates the need to reduce complexity and improve the quality of protection; and how top MSSPs align with business, customize for clients and provide the flexibility organizations need.

IBM Named Leader in Forrester Wave for Managed Security Services

IBM’s Managed Security Services addresses the accelerating security skills gap organizations face. We also help organizations navigate the numerous security technologies they cannot afford the time to understand, let alone implement in a timely and qualitative way.

We have invested in developing a sophisticated global presence for our clients that delivers 24/7/365 managed security services, with highly specialized teams and technologies — all to reduce risks, costs and overhead while improving security from the perspective of people, processes and technology.

Other important investments include our acquisition of Resilient Systems, which bridges the gap between security operations and incident response and allows security teams to easily escalate incidents and quickly develop a response plan.

We’ve also extended our globally recognized X-Force threat expertise. IBM has developed the collaborative tools and teams to better predict and respond to vulnerabilities and threats via initiatives such as the X-Force Exchange and our growing threat intelligence practice, including the launch of the IBM X-Force Red Security Testing Team. These investments have deepened our capabilities in managed security and provide clients flexible and dependable services they cannot execute alone.

IBM Continues to Innovate

Ranked highest in the Strategy category in this year’s “Forrester Wave for Managed Security Services,” IBM continues to innovate in the ways in which we partner with our clients to transform their security operations and program maturity.

We deliver solutions that can address current gaps in staffing and capabilities, and provide easy-to-consume offerings that will progress a client through the maturation of their security program at a pace that works for them. Investments in Watson for Security, the Security Operations Use Case Library, and automation through advanced analytics and machine learning will foster new ways to consume cybersecurity products and services.

Riding the Wave

Earlier this year, IBM Security was also recognized as a Leader in “The Forrester Wave™: Information Security Consulting Services, Q1 2016.” IBM’s unique position to deliver both leading Security Consulting and Managed Security Services in a unified business unit enables clients to receive end-to-end services and solutions to tackle the most strategic and complex demands.

We believe being acknowledged by Forrester in the Managed Security Services Provider Wave demonstrates IBM Security’s leadership in helping clients transform their security program to combat the growing cybersecurity risk. Analyst recommendations point to IBM’s strength in delivering high-value, end-to-end security solutions and services, and demonstrate how IBM continues to advance from smart investments in people and innovations.

How I got started: Attack surface management

4 min read - As the threat landscape multiplies in sophistication and complexity, new roles in cybersecurity are presenting themselves more frequently than ever before. For example, attack surface management. These cybersecurity professionals are responsible for identifying, mapping and securing all external digital assets an organization owns or is connected to. This includes servers, domains, cloud assets and any other digital points that could be exploited by cyber criminals. Their role involves continuously monitoring these assets for vulnerabilities, misconfigurations or other potential security risks…

X-Force uncovers global NetScaler Gateway credential harvesting campaign

6 min read - This post was made possible through the contributions of Bastien Lardy, Sebastiano Marinaccio and Ruben Castillo. In September of 2023, X-Force uncovered a campaign where attackers were exploiting the vulnerability identified in CVE-2023-3519 to attack unpatched NetScaler Gateways to insert a malicious script into the HTML content of the authentication web page to capture user credentials. The campaign is another example of increased interest from cyber criminals in credentials. The 2023 X-Force cloud threat report found that 67% of cloud-related…

Does your security program suffer from piecemeal detection and response?

4 min read - Piecemeal Detection and Response (PDR) can manifest in various ways. The most common symptoms of PDR include: Multiple security information and event management (SIEM) tools (e.g., one on-premise and one in the cloud) Spending too much time or energy on integrating detection systems An underperforming security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) system Only capable of taking automated responses on the endpoint Anomaly detection in silos (e.g., network separate from identity) If any of these symptoms resonate with your organization, it's…
